It's hard to believe there is such a thing as Rodent Awareness Week, but this time of year, it is important to talk about rodent prevention. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) has designated this week, November 16-22, as Rodent Awareness Week to help property owners understand the health and building risks that come with rodents.
Though plenty of people may be scared or disgusted by the sight of a rat or mouse, they often don't realize how dangerous they can be. Rodents carry diseases and urinate frequently, which can contaminate foods and surfaces in areas like the kitchen. They also are constantly chewing and travel along walls and hidden areas; if a rodent starts chewing on wires, property owners may experience dangerous and costly electrical fires. Rodents have also been known to damage cars or boats by climbing in and chewing.
